Rapinoe first participated in her first FIFA Women's World Cup in the year 2011. Between 2015 and the year 2019, her contributions have helped the U.S. Women's World Cup winning team achieve consecutive championships. In 2018, she was cocaptain of the team. Rapinoe's two goals were part of a 4-3-2 United States victory against Australia during the Olympics of 2020 held in Tokyo. Japan, however had to wait until 2021 after the COVID-19 virus was gone.
